My Golden Morning Rituals

Stop. Pause. Inhale. Exhale.

How much of your life is on autopilot? How much of your time is spent living consciously? Are you snoozing your alarm until the last minute, grabbing a coffee and rushing out the door? No matter how your mornings looks like, take a moment to just see how it actually makes you feel. Tired? Sluggish? Stressed? Uninspired? No-energy in sight? Or maybe you're an earlybird who rejoice with dawn. In yoga, we talk about having a beginner's mind. Doing or looking at things like it was the first time create space for more mindfulness, more compassion and understanding. How do you feel when you wake up and how can you make small changes to have a brighter start of the day?

Mornings are golden for me. I love the early rays of sun- specially summertime, when I get to wake up with birds chirping and sunlight. I want my mornings to nourish my body & soul. I love rituals and thought I'd share a few of my golden hours moments.

Waking up

My morning ritual actually starts the night before when I take some quiet time before bed, a little restorative yoga or meditation to slow down and  get me in a mood to fall sleep. I like to keep my blinds open so I wake up with the morning light- in summer- a gentle way to open my eyes instead of the alarm buzzing and stressing me out before I even stepped out of bed.

I'm a freedom seeker. I always try to create freedom and space in my day for wellness. Taking extra time in the morning is essential for my whole being. When I used to work in an office, my mornings were a special moment of quiet, of me time, to really enjoy my breakfast and self care before going to a work that was less than bringing me bright eyes. Now that I work for myself I get to enjoy them even more.

* Say a little gratitude prayer or mantra and how you'd like your day to go. It can be a word or just a few minutes or seconds of visualizing your day while stretching your body. I always try to spend 5-10 minutes meditating. Some days, I just sit on my bed and take a few deep long breaths and that already makes a difference.

* Stay  offline and away from computer & phone. That's actually one thing I struggle with and try to be more mindful of. Some days I managed to  meditate or do a few sun salutations before checking my phone, but that's a work in progress.

Nourish your body

* Drink water. Start your day with one or two big glasses of water. It will hydrate you and wake up your organs.

* Listen and connect to your body. Maybe some stretching or sun salutations will energize you. Going for a quick walk to get some air. Movement is precious. It wakes your body and give you energy for the day- from yoga, to jumping on a trampoline or doing a mini workout with music. Everyday is different for me but I make sure to stretch no matter what. Nothing feels better than a downward dog to wake up from your dreams. Find what makes you feel good. Sometimes we need extra sleep time too. It's about listening to what your body needs.

* Breakfast. Take time to sit down and enjoy what you're eating. Is your breakfast nourishing you? Is it giving you energy and keeping you full until lunch? Is it delicious? If you're the proud owner of a garden, porch or balcony, go have breakfast outside.

Nourish your soul

* Give hugs, leave a sweet note,  journal, do a morning happy dance, send a message to a friend just to tell them you're thinking about them and wishing them a good day, do a random act of kindness, it will give you good vibes for the day!

* Get inspired by reading a few pages of a book, looking at your vision board, watching a TED talk, listen to podcasts on your way to work. Having a vision of where you want to go with your dreams and life will keep you motivated for the day.

* Enjoy the little things. Walk to your work. Breathe in the fresh morning air. Make eye contact with people instead of watching your phone, or just pay attention to life happening around you- sometimes I catch a glimpse of a warm hug between friends, little girls dancing while walking in the streets, people smiling at a text they just received…it makes me smile.

Honor your life. Be thankful.

Live in that sweet present moment.

Embracing Spring Energy

"Spring is nature's way of saying, "let's party." Robin Williams

As I give thanks to winter and it's nurturing and cosy energy, I am quite excited with spring equinox today. After this day, the sun gifts us with more light everyday. Gratitude vibe just right here! The sound of happy birds, the smell of crisp mornings, eyes filled with blue skies, oh spring, it's lovely to have you back!  It feels like all my senses rejoice with its arrival. If you're like me, your body and soul may have been craving sunshine, fresh air and lighter food. Nature is so magic that if you listen and pay attention to your body, it will provide everything you need every season to thrive and feel vibrant. I am amazed at how more connected I am to life's natural rhythm. My body craves leafy greens and radishes (food nerd I know!), I've switched my morning oatmeal/ chia seeds bowl for green smoothies and I am moving my body everyday with joy. I'm slowly releasing limiting beliefs and old habits that no longer serves me. Creative flow is coming, energy is higher. Yoga does that to you! ; )

So, it's time to shake up that winter layer and soak up that powerful energy coming in. You may feel sluggish, tired or heavy during this transition time but there's also a sense of rebirth, renewal and new beginnings happening in spring as it happens with nature. It's the ideal time to hop on that energising wagon and enjoy the freshness of feeling alive!

I thought I would share my favorite rituals to embrace spring and its vibrant energy.

Here's a few ways to ease into the season:

  • Vigorous exercise

After months of hibernation and slower flow of life, it's time to incorporate more movement into your day - rebounding, swimming, yoga are ideal to build up heat in the body. You want to activate the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and waste accumulated during winter.

  • Food

Time to wake up your body and cells and pay a visit to the farmer's market. Add lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to your meals and avoid sugar, dairy, alcohol, meat, caffeine for 2 weeks to give a break to your digestive system.

  • Dry skin brushing

Skin is the biggest organ in the body so it's important to get rid of the toxins that get accumulated. Dry brushing exfoliates dead skin and stimulates circulation and the lymphatic system. Best time to do it is in the morning before your shower. Use a natural dry brush and go in circle motion from your feet towards your heart - always go in the direction of your heart. Continue with a hot/cold shower as it will improve your blood flow and give you a boost as your heart rate will accelerate and more oxygen will be released.

  • Embrace spaciousness

Declutter your home. Simplicity is more. Clutter blocks the energy and makes it harder to move forward with projects. Get rid of the clothes you haven't worn in the past year, donate or throw away the things that are taking dust, create space in your home for your mind to be creative and let that fresh energy in. Open your windows too.

"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."

William Morris

  • Let go

Pause for a moment and check where you are in your life now. It's a good time to let go of unhealthy habits, relationships or anything that is no longer serving you.

    • Connect with nature.

Go for walks or just spend more time outdoors, soak up the first warm rays of sunshine and recharge your vitamin D levels.

  • Meditation

Deep breathing. Quiet time. Visualise and meditate on where you want to go, who you want to become. Reset your intentions.

Do you have any springtime rituals? What makes you happy? I'd love to hear any other wellness & healthy tips you have to feel vibrant during this time of year.

Happy Spring!

Rock The Winter Vibe!

Winter is definitely here and in full force with freezing winds and snow that make you think twice about leaving your comfy home. It's a season that is often seen as depressing with its grey skies and coldness that last forever. After the holidays are long gone, the cold and dark days can definitely bring the winter blues and make you yearn for spring.

How to rock the winter vibe:

Embrace the season

It's about living in the now and surrendering to what is. Winter (if you live in the northern hemisphere) usually lasts for months, so changing your perspective might be the best answer to embrace it. You can choose to complain and feel down about it or you can choose to see the goodness of it.  It's like everything in life - the moment you stop resisting something, it starts to flow with ease. Go for pleasure and find ways to warm up your soul. Chase the sun when it makes a shy appearance to soak in the light and recharge your vitamin D levels. Blue sky and sunshine will do wonders for your mood and good vibes. You may have a better chance to catch them above the sea of clouds, if you're lucky to live close to the mountains.

Release those endorphins

Move your body and sweat. Even better, do it outdoors! Snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, playing in the snow - be wild & free. Embrace new adventures. Nothing feels as good as breathing fresh air and moving your body while enjoying winter natural beauty. Another great option is yoga- at home or in a cozy candlelit yoga class, or bring out your wild child with some rebounding- you don't even have to leave your house- 10 minutes on your trampoline will already bring you good vibes.

Make it cozy

One of my favorite reason to love winter is the coziness it brings. The magic of a snowy day, a fireplace, candles & blankets, keeping warm with a good cup of herbal tea or hot chocolate, and snuggle time with your love make a cold winter night simply delightful. It's always about the simple things in life. Arrange your home with warm lights and create a little nest where you feel good about spending time there.

Nourish yourself

From heart warming food to self-care and doing activities that makes you happy, find what nourishes your body & soul. Eating locally and seasonally will boost your immune system, keep your energy high and give you all the nutrients and minerals needed to stay healthy and happy. Winter calls for heavier and warming food like soups, stews, rooted veggies- they're full of goodness to keep you grounded and warm. Hydrate and preferably drink warm water to flush the toxins out. Think about what lights you up- maybe a dinner with friends or creative activities to do in group.

Dress for snow

Winter doesn't have to be all grey and dark. Add some color to give you a glow and boost your vibe, a cute beanie, a big comfy sweater, warm socks and boots. It will keep you warm and comfy.

Winter Wellness

It's the perfect time of year to go for saunas or steam baths, to enjoy a massage and take time for your body & soul. Moisturize your skin that needs more attention during dryer months and make your own homemade hair & face mask. Find pleasure in keeping your body healthy and glowing.

Do less

Surrender to the season. Winter is made for a little hibernation and invites for less activities and more rest. It's a time to go within- doing some journalling, finding stillness in meditation, watching the snow fall, going early to bed, reading a good book. Spring and summer will come soon enough where the energy will be higher and you will need to be well rested for longer days and new projects coming up, so enjoy that quieter time.

"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

Edith Sitwell

5 Ways To Add Some Bliss To Your Day!

Do you have the sunday evening syndrome? Not feeling very excited to leave the weekend behind and say hi to monday? If there is no doubt that a weekend filled with fun activities brings more joy than a day spent inside an office, sometimes life happens and we have to take jobs we're not so passionate about while working on achieving our dreams. That's kind of where I am at the moment. My days are not my ideal days yet but I am working on it and I believe that I will be enjoying my own schedule and freedom soon. In the meantime, I have a job that helps me get there. I really believe in making the most of each day and try to add some happy vibes along the way.

Here are 5 ways to add some Bliss into your day:

  • Take time for yourself

Find a moment each day for yourself and do something that makes you happy. Even if it's only 5 minutes. You could wake up 30 minutes earlier to meditate, enjoy your breakfast, go for a run, do some sun salutations or just simply take time to get ready for your day instead of rushing out the door with a cup of coffee in your hand and being stressed out because you are late again. My wellness morning routine is an essential part of my day as I need that time for myself before a day spent sitting at a desk. It definitely brings some good vibes to have some "me" time.

  • Act like you are on vacation.

Yes. You read right. It's all about finding some fun during the day and if you have to wait for your 2-3 weeks a year to unwind and enjoy yourself, than it would be pretty depressing. At least for me. So what I came up with, or I should say my mom, as she joked one day after a work day, "oh so you're on holiday now" and I said while laughing, yes until tomorrow morning, how great is that! ;) Since then we often keep joking about the vacation thing on week nights or weekends.  But I realized that it actually gives you another perspective of your day. The attitude changes and just thinking for a second that this time off after your office hours could be spent as a vacation time makes it more fun! It's all about changing your mindset.

  • Get moving, get some air

Go out on your lunch break, breathe some fresh air, meet some friends, go for a walk/run. It will disconnect you from your office and will give you more energy for the afternoon or after a busy day. Doing a sport you love will release endorphins- the feel good hormone, which will boost your mood and energy!

  • Have some fun & laugh!

Charlie Chaplin said "A day without laughter is a day wasted". Yep, couldn't agree more! Don't take yourself so seriously. Laugh at awkward situations, sing while listening to your favorite music on your way to work, enjoy the pouring rain, be a kid, connect with friends, talk to strangers, do something new, be creative.

  • Be grateful

Being grateful brings happiness. Studies have shown that being grateful and showing love  increases your level of happiness. List 5 things before going to bed that you are grateful for each day. You will start to pay more attention to the little things that put a smile on your face and think about what will be on your daily grateful list.

What brings happy vibes to your day?

Happy fun day!

It's Wellness & Avocado Time!

This sunday morning was rainy and grey. Autumn is definitely around the corner, so the perfect time for some wellness time I say! Candles, music, and a natural homemade hair & face mask to feel good and boost your hair after the summer sun and salty water, what's not to like! I made an avocado hair mask with natural ingredients that you can find in your kitchen. Nothing beats homemade beauty products. It's so much healthier, cheaper, smells better, fun to make it yourself, and better for the planet as well. "If you can't eat, don't put it on your skin". I'm trying to apply this saying as often as I can and changing little by little my products. The skin is the body's largest organ and everything you put on your skin is absorbed in your body, so that means all the chemicals found in your lotion, shampoo, face cream, and make up. Yep! Not very glamorous, right?!

Avocados are not only delicious & healthy but also rich in nutrients that nourish and hydrate your skin and hair. They contain monounsaturated fat that makes your hair shine and provide vitamin C and E.  They help against pollution and strengthen damaged hair. Pretty much the same for olive oil, where the omega 6 helps grow hair.

Honey is a moisturizer and egg yolk is full of protein that helps build and grow your hair.

Coconut oil has so many health benefits and is also the perfect moisturizer for your skin. That's what I use mainly on my body as lotion. It doesn't leave your skin oily at all and it smells delicious- island smell! It's been used for years in the tropics as a skin and hair product. It repairs and strengthen damaged hair and helps your hair grow thanks to the vitamin E and lauric acid.

Avocado Hair Mask:

All you need:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for those of you who have highlights, its better to use almond or jojoba oil as the olive oil lightens your hair)

Mix all the ingredients together to have a smooth consistence like a hair conditioner. Apply the mask on your hair (easier when wet) and make sure to massage your scalp. Try not to splash your bathroom walls with greens! ;) Leave it for 30 minutes. Put a shower cap on. Rinse well with cold water and then apply your usual shampoo. It works wonders and makes super smooth soft shiny hair.

Don't throw away your egg white! You can use it for a face mask. That's what I love with fresh real food, every ingredient has a healthy purpose! ;) Egg whites are good for blackheads and to tighten the skin.
