Follow your heart

  quit your job

Yep. I did it. I quit my job. I bought a ticket. To Bali. Enrolled to a Yoga Teacher Training. Taking off in a week. I'm following my heart, my intuition. Hard to believe it's actually happening. Seems like I'm telling someone else's story. After dreaming and talking about it for months, I'm finally on the road to my Sunshine path. It took me a while, but here I am, sitting in a cafe, music in my ears, writing this post, my heart beating, I can't help but smile. Oh Bliss! Oh Life!

I'm making the big jump into the unknown.

Scary? Yes.

Excited? Oh yes!

Feeling an intense feeling of freedom running through my body, mind & soul? Hell yeah!

Oh Freedom, you are so precious, so wanted, so present, how good it is to be reunited in your presence.  I dreamed and imagined this moment for quite some time now, but it wasn't an easy road to get there, specially for someone who's not great at decisions making.

All the big decisions I made in my life, I made them while connecting to my heart and following my intuition. To be honest, I often struggle for weeks or months if it is life-changing decisions. I don't work well on setting deadlines, I'd rather go through the different phases- desires, doubts, dreams, fears, confusion, excitement and all the thoughts and feelings in between until clarity appears. It always does. There's always signs that come along the way and confirm the "Yes" you so desperately want to shout. So many questions, so many doubts. I think the biggest barrier I put for myself is fear of my own capacity to rebound no matter what happens. To trust that when you follow your heart and intuition, your life unfolds perfectly and how it should be. I don't believe in failures. It's always a learning experience. Better to take risks to try and reach for your dream then stay in a place where you feel comfortable but far from happy.

Every time I took the leap- when I enrolled in my nutrition coaching courses at IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) and a few months ago when I decided to leave my job to make space for the next chapter-  certainty arise and it feels like it's meant to be, I am not even sure how I could even doubt for a minute that I wouldn't go for it, this feeling of being aligned with your heart and your true purpose. That's when I know I'm on my sunshine path.

I hope it will inspire some of you to take that leap of faith, jump into the unknown and listen to your calling. It doesn't necessary have to be a big thing like changing career or moving to a new city. It could simply be taking the guitar lessons you always wanted to do, showing up to that dance class, putting your feet back on the ski slopes or start that creative project you always talk about. That thing that is calling you, that when you start thinking about it, your whole body goes into butterfly mode.

 

As Wayne Dyer said it, "Don't die with the music still in you". There are so many possibilities, so many dreams to realize and passions to find. Life is a beautiful gift. We should treasure it and make the most of it.

Follow your heart. Follow your intuition. Go do the things you always wanted to do. Don't wait for the perfect moment. Just take the first step and the rest will follow.

Full of good vibes and gratitude, I am writing this blog post thanks to my new friend Méia Jacobs, a lovely girl who nominated me for the Liebster Award. Méia has a very creative & beautiful blog called "Love Who You Are" that you definitely need to check out. She has a natural talent with words.

"Beeboop" is the family dog- a funny jack russell who's my running buddy and who loves to cuddle and is also often smiling!!haha true! She's the sweetest!

2.  What is your favorite travel destination?

It's definitely a hard one to answer as I'm a traveler & gypsy at heart and discovering new places makes me feel free like a bird. I had the chance to travel quite a bit around the world and saw a lot of beautiful countries but I would pick Bali as I went on a solo trip and had a magical time over there.

I love flower's from the market, but don't have a specific favorite.

Oh how I loved my sunday morning cartoons when I was a kid! hehe good memories! I would say all the Disney's and Babar The Elephant!

As a creative outlet and to share what gave me good vibes and to spread them around! :)

The New Year is always a perfect time for a fresh start! I love that feeling!

As we're just a few days away from the end of the year...it's nice to look back at the year that has just passed and think about all those precious moments we had the chance to live. What were your highlights? What moments will you remember? What made this year special? Have you accomplished some things that were on your bucket list? It's always nice to reflect on the year and see where you are now and where you want to be next year and start preparing a dream-goal list for 2013. Some of my 2012 highlights:

  • One of my best friend gave birth to a beautiful baby girl
  • Starting my blog
  • My yoga practice
  • Being surrounded by family and friends and spend quality time with them and making memories
  • Enrolling in a health coach program at IIN
  • Having found my passion, following my dream and taking action towards it!

For 2013, I will keep a jar or box where I'll add little notes each time something great happens, so I can open them again on the 31st december 2013 and look back at all the great things that put a smile on my face and made my heart beat faster! ;) I saw this somewhere on the Internet and thought it was a nice idea, as I love visuals!

So what are your goals? What do you want to see happen in the near future? Your wildest dreams? If you think it's about time that things shift in your life than take a first step and jump! Create a vision board, brainstorm ideas and start making a plan with goals and steps to achieve it. I like writing and seeing it on papers. It makes it more real. I don't want to talk about resolutions because studies have shown ..and no surprise to that, that we don't keep our resolutions. It's often due to a lack of clarity of what we exactly want and the steps to move towards that goal. Try to go deeper and see the real reason why you want something, so you may have a better chance to keep your goals on track. I love my vision board as I am reminded every day of my dreams & goals.

Here's a quick overview of my 2013 goals:

  • Start my Health Coaching practice
  • Find which food-diet is best for my body
  • More travels & adventures
  • Improve my photography skills
  • Add creativity to my life

How meditation can improve your day!

When was the last time you sit still and just concentrated on your breathing?

I was introduced to meditation through my yoga classes. We often end the class with a 10 minute meditation, which I enjoy a lot. I wanted to add some kind of spiritual practice into my daily routine but wasn't sure how to do it. That's when the 21 day challenge from Deepak Chopra happened to start and I just jumped right in. I did the meditation every day for 21 days. It was a guided meditation of 15 minutes. And I have to say, it's been a beautiful practice that I have continued to do as I saw the improvement in the quality of my sleep and my general wellbeing. I  love meditating just before bed as it's a nice way to end the day and get ready for bed. I light some candles and make it all cozy...just because I like it!:) but you can practice meditation anywhere! A walk in nature is also a good way to bring awareness and tranquility to your mind. Meditating around the same time every day helps to create an habit. It is a learning experience as it can take time until we can let our mind wander and let go of our thoughts as well as learning to sit still in silence.

Some friends started the 21 day challenge with me and were very happy to discover all the benefits. One of them used the daily meditation practice to help her quit smoking! She replaced the "after work cigarette" ritual with a 15 minute meditation and it really helped her in getting her mind off the cigarette. The feeling of calmness and deep relaxation are such rare moments in our busy lives. We stopped taking time for ourselves, we're always surrounded by noise with the TV or music on, we just forgot how to connect with our body and mind, to let go of the day and all the negative energy accumulated. Stress has so many bad effects on our health that finding a quiet moment to let your brain rest is incredibly powerful.

Meditation has wonderful health benefits. Here's a few ones. Have a look!

  • It boosts your immune system.
  • It is an anti-inflammatory- as the stress brings inflammation, the relax mind can help prevent it.
  • It lowers blood pressure.
  • It increases fertility- you're more likely to make babies when you're in a relaxed environment than a stressful one.
  • It relieves Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms like bloating, diarrhea and constipation.
  • It can help with insomnia, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, migraines.
  • It improves your memory and keeps you focused and clear.
  • It slows down the aging process.

What do you desire? What makes your heart beat?

Hello Sunshines! We tend to forget our dreams, our goals because of the routine, the busy schedules between family, work, friends and daily chores and all that's on our "to do list". But take a second and think of what really matters. I find it's always good to get some perspective and see the bigger picture. What will you remember from your life? Is it the new car you bought, the latest phone, the new pair of shoes or the 100th fancy party you attended? This happiness is only temporary and doesn't last. So find what truly makes you happy and go for it!

I know it's hard to break free from the routine and our daily lives, as we need to pay the bills and have responsibilities. But is paying the bills a good enough reason to keep working at a job you don't like or that makes you stressed and unhappy? I'm struggling a bit myself with this, as of course it's not all black or white. I know what I want and I'm on my way to my dream job and life. I found my passion with wellness, nutrition and coaching and I am working on transforming this into a career and the minute I took the decision to do so, - after a lot of thinking and having doubts-  it really felt like it was meant to be. I see more and more around me friends and people struggling to find what they truly want to do with their lives. Some are not happy with their current job, some dream of something bigger but aren't sure what that is. As Steve Jobs said: "Don't settle, keep looking".  Ask yourself the right questions. It's not the money that really matters (well of course it's still important, I'm not going to lie...you don't want to live under a bridge, right?!) but there's so much more than money in life. And you can find happiness in so many ways, in every day life and I truly think it comes from within ourselves. And as the saying goes: "Happiness is a journey not a destination". We tend to always wait for the perfect moment to be finally happy. When I'll graduate, when I'll find a job, when I'll get married, when I'll have kids...well you know how it goes. We all did it. But we need to enjoy the present moment and forget about when everything will be perfect, because it never is, and in a way, that's the beauty of it.

Follow your passion; follow your heart. It has to feel right and decisions comes from within your heart and intuition. There is something inside of you that will feel good the moment you take the right decision for your happiness. When you start doing what you love, you will shine, you will create a wave of joy around you and within you that you will no longer want to settle for anything less than the bliss you get from doing what you were truly meant to do.
